Mobile Task Force
HISTORY: -
The Mobile Task Force in Tripura has been functioning since 1970. Initially it was a small unit under the Supervision and control of the District Superintendents of Police. Subsequently, on 20/11/1975 a separate unit was set up independently to tackle the problem of illegal immigration. Besides, MHA (Border Management Division) had sanctioned 144 temporary posts under the MTF/PIF scheme in 1974. Later on, the strength was reduced to 128 (vide No. 11014/6/2005-B.M.III dated 17-03-2006). The expenditure of those temporary posts is borne by the Central Govt. on production of requisite audit certificate regarding expenditures etc.
FUNCTIONS: -
The important function of Mobile Task Force is primarily detection, prosecution and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from this country. Apart from the above, MTF carries out the tasks of conducting inquiry in respect of suspected Nationality, fake/doubtful nationality certificate, involvement of Bangladeshi nationals in fundamentalist and anti Indian activities and also collection of intelligence involving trans-border crimes/issues etc.
ORGANISATIONAL SET UP :-
MTF is under the direct charge of SP(MTF) with one Addl. SP/Dy.SP/Inspectors and SIs and other non-gazetted officers are posted for running the executive sections and the General section is headed by Head Clerk and other Ministerial staff. 10 MTF/PIF camps viz (i) Agartala, Mohanpur, Narsinghar, Kamalasagar and Sonamura under West District (ii) Dharmanagar and Kailasahar under North District (iii) Belonia and Sabroom under South District and (iv) Kamalpur under Dhalai District are existent for detection, prosecution and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi/Foreign infiltrators.
RULES & REGULATIONS, MANUALS GOVERNING FUNCTIONS OF THE UNIT:-
a) Bangladeshi nationals who came to India illegally on or after 25th March 1971 are treated as illegal immigrants as per instruction of Govt. of India vide No. 11/180/72-TX dated 30-09-1972.
b) The legal provision under passport (Entry into India) 1920 and Rules framed there under passport (Entry into India) Rules 1950 etc are being followed.
c) The Mobile Task Force Manual-2009 issued by DGP, Tripura and instructions and guidelines received from the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs (Foreigners Division) and Govt. of Tripura, Home and Political Department govern the functions of the unit.
MODERNISATION:-
Following proposals for modernization are under consideration.
i. Permanent construction for 10(ten) MTF Camps,
ii. Providing computers/web camera/mobile for Communication and other logistics,
iii. Converting MTF into a full fledged Battalion.
