KTD Police Training Academy

 

 

Background: The state of Tripura has got only one training academy for the police personnel. It was set up on 01.05.67 at A.D. Nagar in the barracks of Tripura Armed Police Battalions as a training school for the police personnel. With the passage of time it was elevated to the status of Police Training College and was shifted to Narsingarh, Tripura (West) under Airport PS about 14 km away from Agartala Headquarters on 23.9.85. As per order of Home Department, Govt. of Tripura on 12.06.2009, it was officially renamed as KTDS Police Training Academy 24.06.2009

Activities: The police training academy is the institution, which moulds a layman into policemen. The training institute also assists in the personal and professional development of police personnel so that they can effectively and efficiently carry out their policing duties. In brief it provides (i) Basic training to the recruit constables (both man & woman), (ii) pre-basic training to recruit Sub-Inspectors of Police (Men/Women), the Asst. Commandants, TSR and newly recruited TPS Gr.II officers. (iii) Trade training to various rank of Tripura Police which includes Bugler, drivers, wireless operator, Engine fitter, Electrician etc. It also provides pre-course training of those trade courses, which are currently not available here. For example pre-trade training of armourer is conducted at PTA; the main course is conducted at CSWT, Indore. (iv) Pre-promotion and after promotion course (v) Professional courses (vi) Computer Training. Also conducts practical training of TPS (Prob) and IPS (Prob) and practical training of promotional examination for SI to Inspector of police which is taken by TPSC. Over and above, professional training is also given to other departments’ personnel such as basic training to Forest Guards and Jail Warders, Security Awareness Training to ONGC personnel. The functions of the institution are governed by BPR&D. For the period from January 2006 to December 2010 in total 19 basic training were conducted .

Organisation:   The organisational set of the unit is as follows - Principal (SP), Vice-Principal (Addl. SP), Adjutant, Quarter Master, D.D.O (Dy. SP). CDI, CLI, MTO, ROI (Inspector of police), RO, Sub-Adjutant (SI), Major (Head Constable).

SPIO: The Principal of the training college is the Public Information Officer.
